The Purpose of Education

Today I have been listening to Atishi Marlena on a podcast where she was talking about the purpose of education. Here are some of the key points which stayed with me: .1. Education must be about teaching the processes and not about rote learning or getting fixated on some date or personality. As the famous Seth Godin says, the event which happened is of least importance than the reason because of it happened and events that would ensue because of it. Pushing our brain power to figure out the underlying reasons for anything happening, muti-disciplinary, multi-dimensionally and lateral thinking is somewhat a critical thinking arsenal which must be developed in everyone. 2. Good infrastructure creates a sense of ownership in the students. With introduction of good benches, chairs and other infrastructure in the school, students feels themselves invested and have sense of dignity by being associated with the institution. One of the possible reasons is that the government infra is sim

The Price of Mediocrity and Its Impact on Character.

What breeds mediocrity within us? How does it seeps into our character? How does it feels like to live with a mediocre personality or attitude? In my opinion, mediocrity is similar to living in hell on this planet. Why do I say so? Because it reflects in everything we think, say and do. Every single thing gets engulfed in the aura of mediocrity once we accept it in any single domain of our life. It has been said that ‘the way you do anything is the way you do everything’. It means that if you act without thinking in one area of your life, it gets replicated in other areas of our lives. Lets take decision making as for example. Decision making is in itself a technical process. To make any successful and end achieving decision there are number of factors that need to be considered. Any single factor has the potential to derail a well thought out decision and stop us from achieving the end objective. Hence we can say that if we are prone to impulsive decision making behavior, we would

Electricity and modern world.

What does having electricity mean in the modern world? If I were to say, then the answer would be: Everything. Why do I say so? Because without electricity, there is nothing but darkness. And darkness brings nothing but fear and pushes us back in the time. To understand this concept, let us try to understand what darkness means. The life before 1880, the year when commercial operations of electricity begun, life was not pretty much safe. After the sun went down, it became dark and what does darkness brings with it? Fear. Lack of mobility. Lack of work. Possibility of crime. Almost all of the human activity goes down. I remember when I was a child and used to visit my village, the whole village would have had dinner and went to sleep by 7 pm. But now there is electricity. And things are not like the gone by years. I have also observed that post-arrival of electricity, the level of social collaborations among the people of the village has gone down. They are mostly confined
